Upon arrival at the reef, snorkelers are equipped with masks, snorkels, and fins provided by the tour operators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clarity of the water at Turneffe Reef is astounding, with visibility often reaching up to 100 feet. Turneffe Reef is renowned for its vibrant marine life and colorful coral formations. With its calm, crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life, kayaking offers a peaceful and intimate way to check out the coastline and nearby mangroves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renting a kayak is a breeze, with plenty of spots offering hourly or daily rates, and it\u2019s the perfect chance to discover hidden coves, secluded beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. As you paddle through the serene waters, keep an eye out for colorful fish, playful rays, and maybe even a sea turtle or two, all while enjoying the gentle sway of the ocean beneath you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the coolest parts of kayaking around Caye Caulker is exploring the island&#8217;s extensive mangrove forests. Swim With Manatees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Swimming with manatees is an unforgettable experience and one of my favorite things to do in Caye Caulker and in Belize itself as well! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These gentle giants, often called &#8220;sea cows,&#8221; are known for their slow-moving, serene nature and are a joy to encounter in their natural habitat. The waters around Caye Caulker provide a perfect environment for manatees, with their warm temperatures and plentiful seagrass beds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way to see and swim with them is by going on an organised tour. Numerous operators offer these excursions where you can snorkel alongside these fascinating creatures, however a sighting isn&#8217;t guaranteed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are lucky, as you glide through the clear, turquoise waters, you may find yourself swimming next to a curious manatee, observing its graceful movements and gentle demeanor up close. Interacting with manatees in the wild is a unique and humbling experience that emphasizes the importance of conservation and respect for marine life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During these tours, knowledgeable guides ensure that encounters are safe and respectful, both for the manatees and for swimmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were lucky enough to encounter 3 manatees all in the same spot unexpectedly as we had given up at this point and instead decided to snorkel the coral reefs. Honestly, this is one activity that is a must do, no matter what your budget is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The island is surrounded by the stunning Belize Barrier Reef, which offers an incredible underwater adventure. Snorkeling tours typically take you to some of the best spots, such as the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you dive into the clear, turquoise waters, you&#8217;ll be greeted by a vibrant array of marine life, including colorful fish, intricate coral formations, and even the occasional sea turtle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the highlights of these tours is visiting Shark Ray Alley, where you can swim with friendly nurse sharks and southern stingrays, which I will also cover in more detail below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No doubt this is the best snorkeling I have ever done and I have been right around Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Australia, and more! However, you need to know this place gets super busy, with 30 minute + waits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> A friend a I thought it would be a good idea to grab a couple of fry jacks before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.backpackerswanderlust.com\/caye-caulker-snorkeling-tours\/\">our snorkeling tour<\/a>. Visit The Great Blue Hole<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No doubt one of the most iconic sights in Belize is the Great Blue Hole so of course we have to mention it as a must do when staying in Caye Caulker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This iconic natural wonder is a giant marine sinkhole that attracts divers and snorkelers from around the world. The Great Blue Hole is located about 70 kilometers from Caye Caulker, and getting there typically involves a scenic boat ride, offering stunning views of the turquoise waters and surrounding reef formations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can either snorkel or dive here, however, for recreational divers including those swimming on the surface, you won&#8217;t be able to see much unfortunately. A lot of the stalactites and impressive marine life lies below 40 meters in depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you can also take a scenic flight to the Great Blue Hole from Caye Caulker. From the air, the magnificent sight of the deep blue sinkhole surrounded by the lighter turquoise waters of the Belize Barrier Reef is truly spectacular.
