After you are done exploring the incredible colonial buildings of Antigua it is time to hit the road to your next destination in Guatemala<\/a>. If you were like me and looking to get back to the sun and find a nice beach to enjoy, there is no better place than El Paredon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a quaint coastal town that has very quickly popped up on the backpacking Guate<\/a>mala<\/a> trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason this is such a popular spot nowadays is its close proximity to Antigua<\/a>! You don’t need to spend too long on the road getting from Antigua to El Paredon, and even if you only have a weekend to explore, then you will still have plenty of time free on your arrival and departure days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another popular choice for a beach spot in Guatemala is Montericco<\/a>, though I did meet a few people in the Spanish school I was studying at<\/a> who said it is extremely overrated. They said it was busy, dirty, and too built up. Instead, they regret not going to El Paredon, a little slice of traveler heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luckily for you, it is incredibly easy to travel from Antigua to El Paredon, though you will need to hit the road as flying is not an option. Instead, you will need to either book a tourist shuttle, navigate the chicken buses, or book a private taxi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
