For example, we can&#8217;t just jump on the back of a Grab Bike or taxi like elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may just be just a <strong>few kilometers from Ao Nang Beach to Railay Beach<\/strong>, but you&#8217;ll need to take a <strong>long tail boat for $3.24 \/ 100 THB one way or $6.48 \/ 200 THB for a return trip<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a pretty iconic way to see the Southern beaches, so you&#8217;ll also be able to tick that off your bucketlist. Though generally these aren&#8217;t ones I would recommend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ao Nang Longtail Boat Service Club: <\/strong>This is in the center of Ao Nang Beach and is the most popular place to travel from, so wait times are pretty short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have purchased your ticket, you can wait in the restaurant and boat for a boat driver to shout Railay. If you decide to book a return, be aware that there will be a set time for you&#8217;ll have to head back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, you can&#8217;t just hang around Railay Beach until you&#8217;re ready. Theres plenty of things to do here which I will get into below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you want to check out the scenery, grab a meal, and swim at a couple of beaches, you&#8217;ll be pushed for time. This meant waiting around for 15 minutes or so until enough people turned up to fill the boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the driver was ready, he called up down to the shoreline, where we walked out into the water and jumped onboard. Your long tail boat will pull up alongside the sandy shores, giving you your first taste of this popular spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is definitely one of the best sights in Thailand. And yes, the photos do look like that in real life. With the colorful long tail boats all lined up, steep cliffs, and palm tree covered beaches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also one of the better spots to go swimming, though make sure to do so on either side of where the boats park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s definitely the perfect place for a dip with so much space to spread out that it feels a lot more private. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can go snorkeling here if you wish. Though you&#8217;ll be best to do this close to the rocks, as the long tail boats zip in and out quickly. Not in the slightest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m unsure whether we visited at high tide, so there wasn&#8217;t much beach, but Phra Nang Beach was absolutely jam packed when I visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was actually hard to relax with so many people. Surprisingly, the majority seemed to be Thai tourists, compared to the usual international traveler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s also quite an unusual feature of the penis cave. Rather than a hike, it&#8217;s more of a climb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is because a lot of the time, you&#8217;ll actually be using a rope to pull yourself up the cliffside. Even though the entire trail is only 1km long, it&#8217;s not something that is suitable for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/betweenenglandandiowa.com\/east-railay-viewpoint-hike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brave enough to take on the viewpoint<\/a>, just make sure you are equipped. You&#8217;ll need proper shoes with a decent grip. You won&#8217;t get far in sandals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re extra brave, once at the top, you can then climb down into the secret lagoon. This is in no way safe, especially if there has been rain, so proceed with caution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kayaking-the-cliffsides\">Head Out Kayaking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are keen to explore a bit more, you can kayak from Railay West. You&#8217;ll find plenty of kayak rentals on the beac,h which you can either hire per hour or by the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s quite a few little tunnels and passages on the cliffsides which you can check out. Though remember to be careful, especially in shallow areas where there may be coral underneath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rates start at $6.48 \/ 200 THB and increase by $3.24 \/ 100 THB for each additional hour. Be aware that you&#8217;re best not to carry food around them, and avoid plastic bags as they associate this with food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honestly, they do scare me so I always stay away, and even though you may find them cute, please keep your distance. Just be prepared that prices here are higher than in other places on the mainland due to the isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of accommodation, you don&#8217;t have too many options available, especially if you are looking for something budget friendly. This is simple because it&#8217;s only a small area with a limited amount of available land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cheapest choice you&#8217;ll have is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/th\/rapala-rock-wood-resort-railay-krabi.en.html?aid=1197179&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rapala Rock Wood Resort<\/a>. Here, you can find a basic private room starting from $50.00 per night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, theres 1 hostel on the island if you are keen to save some money and stay in a shared dorm. The short 15-kilometer journey is relatively easy, and there are multiple different transport options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Taxi:<\/strong> A taxi you can find all around the city and will cost you around $10.00. There is also Grab, a mobile app similar to Uber that you can use all over Southeast Asia. This is great for navigating language barriers and so you can know you are not going to be scammed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Songthaew:<\/strong> The cheapest way to travel between Krabi and Ao Nang is definitely by taking a Songthaew. This is popular with both the locals and travelers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have taken this songthaew on this journey, and it was an awesome, stress-free ride. The only minimally difficult part was finding where you take the Songathew from. You will see the white songthaews by the main mall or near the bus station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The journey only costs a couple of dollars, and you will either be dropped off at Nopparathara Beach or right in the center of Ao Nang. Each bus generally makes both stops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"bangkok-to-ao-nang\">Bangkok To Ao Nang<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are in the capital of Thailand and you want to travel to Ao Nang the easiest, quickest, and the best way will be to fly. Krabi Airport is the nearest airport to Ao Nang. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you are tight on money, unfortunately, a bus will be the cheapest option. It&#8217;s a long and pretty painful 11-hour journey along the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"koh-saumi-koh-phangan-or-koh-tao-to-ao-nang\">Koh Saumi, Koh Phangan Or Koh Tao To Ao Nang<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before arriving in Ao Nang, I was actually staying in the Gulf Of Thailand in Koh Phangan. So, this was the journey I took, and it was surprisingly straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you will need to take a ferry from whichever island you are on to the mainland. From the mainland, you will be able to take a bus all the way to at least Krabi, where you will need to transfer to Ao Nang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have actually done the entire journey with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lomprayah.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lomprayah<\/a> multiple times. It even includes a hotel transfer at the end, which makes the whole travel day super stress-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other alternative is getting to Koh Samui where there is an airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, you can get a direct flight to Krabi and then get a transfer to your accommodation in Ao Nang. Though of course, this is the more pricey option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"phuket-to-ao-nang\">Phuket To Ao Nang<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, if you are staying in the popular tourist spot of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phuket_Province\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phuket<\/a>, you can still get to Ao Nang. Honestly, the easiest way here will probably be getting a ferry across the sea to Krabi and then taking a songthaew to Ao Nang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of ferry operators, and they have multiple departure times per day.
